Welcome to our Techno Technique guide to Delay Rumble. This is a pulsating sub bass you hear in a lot of techno records, old and new. It’s made from delaying, filtering and distorting the kick drum to get a beating sub bass underneath the drums. You hear in tracks from artists like Klangkuenstler, SNTS, Sara Landry, as well as labels like Drumcode.
There’s a full video below on how to use it…. The video below covers everything you need to know to use the rack or make your own….

How To Make a Techno Delay Rumble Kick In Ableton
This a delay rumble, which is different from the reverb rumble, as you get a galloping but synched more pulsating rumble as you’re delaying the kick and filtering it down, not using reverb to smear it.
To use this rack, copy your kick drum channel and then add this rack to it.
To make a delay rumble you delay the kick in time, distort it to make it bigger, then filter it down to cut the top end, you can then distort it more and filtered down again to make it even bigger. This is what I’ve done in the rack here. I boost the filter resonance to eventuate the sub. You can then go back and tweak the filter and distortion to taste. A little bit of a change in cut off or distortion can make a big effect on the final rumble.
Pro tip: group process the kick and rumble together at the end to glue them together. I use more distortion.
