The rack is based on a chord mini unit making a chord in Operator with detuned sinewaves and some FM, and filter distortion. The filter envelope keeps the chord tight and gated. Then in the effects chain there’s 2 Echo unit and a separate reverb unit for loads of dub delays. Plus phasers, filters and distortions in the chain to sculpt the sound a give in character. It will work on Ableton 10 Suite and above.

What’s In The Free Dub Techno Chord Rack:
Here’s what’s in the rack and how I set it up:
- I 8 assigned macros at the start, and then a chord unit. That means you can play any one note and it will convert it into a minor chord, which is ideal for dub techno.
- Then there’s an Operator unit with detuned sinewaves and some frequency modulation. I gated the chord short with a tight filter envelope and driven with Filter Drive for some analog-modelled distortion…
- Then there’s an Echo unit with Reverb and both let and right delays slightly ‘off’ for character.
- There’s a synched bandpass filter with LFO cutoff modulation for rhythmic movement.
- A phaser with feedback for those alien tones.
- Another Echo unit with longer delay time.
- An LP filter with LFO for movement
- Another phaser with feedback for more phaser tones, and then a final reverb.
- At the end of the chain is a Saturator to give everything some analog drive character.
The Macro Controls:
These macro controls are ideal for automating, or assigning to a midi controller…
- Time: Make all envelopes longer or shorter in Operator including the filter envelope you can really open up the chord sound with this, or gate it short..
- Filter Freq: lifts the main cutoff filter on Operator so the dub chord is no longer short and gated, but open.
- Filter Res: the main LP filter resonance.
- Echo 1 Mix: the wet/dry mix of the first Echo unit.
- Reverb Level: adds reverb early on in the effects chain in the first Echo unit.
- BP LFO: the amount the LFO modulated the bandpass filter wobble.
- Phaser Mix: adds in the phaser, with loads of feedback for alien-like phaser tones.
- Reverb Decay: the decay of the final reverb – add it in for big reverb swells and to build tension.
